How do you know you are an Arab? Is it because people kept repeating it to you? Since you live in the Aures region, wouldn't say you are more likely to be Berber (Chaoui) than Arab?

Yes it's "Maaza ou taret" and I'm 05 as you mentioned this is home speciality.
Since I've opened my eyes in this life, I was knowing I'm arab because I'm talking arabic. There is people in my region (just few kilometeres far from me) that are pure chaoui and their mothers only speak Chaouia.
My guess is, if my mother doesnt understand Chaouia or Berber in general (and great part mothers in alggeria) this is meaning something to me that they are from another race.

I am muslim, first and foremost, then I am African, Chaouia, and Arabic, etc... As was said to me once, we are Arabic because of Islam. Should I defy history for giving me a rich culture and many identities? No...screw it! I am happy to be Algerian. No matter what race is prescribed on me. I don't have an identity problem, but I am happy to be all of it....even if it's just by language. So, all the Berbers need to realize that the segregation that they are trying to implement is like the procedure that was performed on the African Americans. If you feel that it is justified, then I think that you are pricks.
The idea of a race being supreme is retarded. We are all humans, and we all are the same. So, screw all this stupid talk about Algerians being berber, because people at this point are just trying to survive.

What I want to tell Benaoui is that the race of arabs exists in algeria and he's all the time denying this fact.
It's a good point when you said that we're arab because of Islam. Some people cannot understand that Arab is a culture rather than a race. And because 100 % of algerians are muslim -except bernaoui - we can say that arabic culture is what's ruling in algeria.
I'm arab but I feel very close to chaoui in everything. I look like berbers rather than arabs of saudia of course .

Does it matter? Such issues become a scoop when people have too much time in their hand and become passive listenss and blind followers. If you take that route we will experience another Bosnia, North Africa style, like we just experienced one bloody Ruanda, North Africa Style.... Allah Yastar, I fear another Bentalha!!

Pour ma part la kestion ne veut rien dire car arabe et africain sont deux choses differentes.
Un arabe est soit africain soit asiatique ( s il vient du moyen orient par exemple).

hmm je suis arabo-musulman ca c'est sur (de toute facon j'ai pas le choix) et puis je suis africain mais j'ai tendance a l'oublier.
j'ai des amis gabonais qui me disent : mais pourquoi vous les tunisiens vous parlez de nous en disant "les africains?"
je leur reponds : "bonne question, c'est un mauvais reflexe car on oublie qu'on fait partie de l'afrique mais plutot du maghreb, comme si le maghreb etait un autre continent. pour d'autre c'est l'europe". et puis en riant je lui dis "finalement tu sais quoi, dans 1 million d'annees grace (ou "a cause" (a vous de choisir)) a la tectonique des plaques, le continent africain va toucher l'afrique par la tunisie, et donc les tunisiens seront mi-europeens mi africains (comme la turquie est mi-europeenne mi-asiatique).
mais n'ayez pas peur vous ne serez jamais europeens faute de vivre 1 million d'annees!

Do you really know what Aryan is? Did anyone here say that berbers are a superior race? I haven't read it anywhere.
Arab is a race that is found only in the arabic peninsula and like it or not we are not arabs we have been "arabized" during "el futuhat el islamya".
I don't speak kabyle and I don't speak chaoui, I only speak arabic but I'm not arab.
In Belgium the "wallons" speak French but they don't say we are French.
In Quebec The "Quebecois" speak french but they don't say we're French.
In Switzerland les "Suisses Romands" speak French, but they don't say we are French.
As long as we are ashamed of who we really are and of our true identity, we can never be ourselves!

I classify myself as an American citizen.
Somali citizen (hence African). My passport says Australian, but personally i don't feel "Australian", so Somali it definitely is.
At the end of the day though, you can never truly be considered an "American" or "Australian" or "British” until you are third generation-and this is by definition not public outlook (which is far harsher).
Bottom line, be proud of your Somali status.
Ofcourse I'm an Arab. I can't talk for all somalis but I know my father and mother are an Arab and the only language we can communicate is Arabic. Being an Arab isn't a race is culture, Haretage, loyality and belonging. I'm very lucky and thankful to Allah that I belong to Arab nation.
